Zeals Tree Planting – Caring for God’s World

Revd Ben Rundell-Evans marked both his arrival as Priest-in-charge at Upper Stour Parish, and also the concern felt by many for our environment on Ash Wednesday.

Together with the children and staff of Whitesheet Primary Academy he planted two trees in the churchyard at St Martin’s Church Zeals. Last year a dead Yew tree was removed from the churchyard and so it was decided by the congregation that we should replace it and a suggestion was made to also plant a Rowan tree that would in time feed the birds. So on a very cold Ash Wednesday we gathered around to celebrate. It is also significant that the Lent theme chosen by the Church of England should be ‘kick started’ in Zeals in this way.
Everyone was able to contribute with soil to help with the planting and the children especially enjoyed themselves being good examples to us all to ‘Care for the Environment’.
